We have a research lab with hundreds of these things for model training. Currently none have gone up in smoke yet. Even though there are maintenance contracts. If one goes does it woulld take the whole cluster with it since the system obviously would shut down. This would be quite the issue because that whole run needs to be done from scratch again in most cases. But they have been stable for us. The funny thing is, the people that made these racks just bought custom cables at MODDIY in bulk because they used custom casing for better cooling.

I don’t use Corsair 12v cables. My astral says the two that I have suck ass and have piss poor per pin variance vs my near perfect MODDIY cable. Even the cablemod cable is better. Both of my Corsair cables have some connectors that are incredibly uneven so I guess that’s why. One is from a RM1000x and the other from a new HX1200i. With a 5070 you don’t have to worry though.

Props to MODDIY for the survival of my launch 4090 and now my launch 5090. People need to stop using these adapters and low quality OEM cables.

A suggestion: I have a feeling you’re asking this because of the messy story with melting connectors and ATX 3.0/ 3.1. If you’re asking regarding the GPU cables, don’t go for CableMod. Go for MODDIY ones because of the “spring leaf” pin design. Watch JayzTwoCents’s video to understand what I mean: it’s something called like “100 inserts” in the title.

Absolutely do not buy corsair cables.. even the ones that come with the PSU. My wireview pro 2 has saved my card from 3 stock corsair cables. My imbalance issues went away completely with a MODDIY cable.

I'd buy real 7950 from MODDIY if it's available in your region

It's under there rated limit but FYI Asus 12v2x6 are no good. I swapped to a MODDIY cable and have had good balance with no issues with MSI 5090 trio.

You can just use thermal paste, but I'd recommend PTM7950, which is a thermal pad that replaces thermal paste. It's got leaps and bounds better performance and longevity, if you can find it. MODDIY is a reputable place to purchase it

make sure you get the four leaf spring terminal variant since those according to MODDIY are the safe ones. Some dimple variants also have been removed from the ATX spec, suggesting that this was indeed an issue.

Yes you will need the opposite model of the horizontal to have the wires come from behind. I suggest a 90 degree cable for less strain on cable. I bought a custom made one from MODDIY.com.

Try look at a third party like MODDIY, that's where I got my cable when I needed it and it works perfectly.

Thanks I almost buy the Corsair one but the MODDIY is way better then.

I have ordered many, many times from MODDIY. Mostly cables of all sorts that are niche or when using their custom cable service. I recommend anyone that order to read their FAQ. Ordering custom cables require due diligence and time. The cables are always to spec, very good quality and mostly made by experts in the field (some cables seem to be machine worked). If you pay premium for postage, you can have anything in stock in about 3-5 days, anywhere in the world. I know people that work in R&D at Google, Intel, Meta, Nvidia and Apple that order i bulk from MODDIY too, they are good suppliers of Shin Etsu/Honeywell thermal compounds for the industry (I wish they would source Halnziye HY-P17 tho).

3.0/5.0 and 3.1/5.1 isn't the issue. The big issue was the pin length on 12vhpwr cable were short and were extended on the 12v2x6 cable. MODDIY cables are good cables I use it myself with the wire view pro 2.

There’s only one company I trust for high end GPU cables ….cables designed specifically for your exact PSU, not some generic stuff. They even make cables for NASA lmao. MODDIY. They use high quality connectors with gold plated pins for better conductivity and reliability. That’s the level you want when you’re running hardware like this. Good luck, brother 🔥

I wouldn't worry about a 5080, it only draws 400w. Just buy a really good cable like MODDIY and you will be ok as long as you insert it in all the way and not remove it all the time.

I use ptm7950 on my 14900k ihs and saw a 5-10c drop(depending on application) slightly higher idle temps until it liquifies then 28-32c. Playing Ark survival evolve we're I'd push 75-80c, its staying usually below 70c with a 420mm aio. Got genuine honeywell ptm7950 from MODDIY 40mmx40mm fit perfectly on the chip

Should’ve gotten the MODDIY cable. Much better quality than any stock OEM cable I’ve used for my old 4090 and now my 5090.

I encourage everyone to look into PTM7950 PCM pads. They are a thermal shifting compound that makes thermal paste look archaic. Thermal performance is bananas. https://www.moddiy.com/products/6061/Honeywell-PTM7950-SP-Super-Highly-Thermally-Conductive-PCM-Pad.html

I swapped my cable to a MODDIY and it's been good so far. Balanced across all pins and I'm using a MSI trio and haven't noticed the pin 2 and pin 6 imbalance that most MSI cards been having. I never tried with the stock PSU 12v2x6 only because I have the Asus strix 1200p and I've seen posts that cable is faulty so I just bought a new cable so it's done right once.

Then at this moment, you are golden my friend. Just keep an eye on them and if they start to get crazy, you may want to look at repasting with the PTM7950, just make sure you get the legit stuff. I ordered mine directly from MODDIY.

Finally safe. Wireview pro 2 came in finally, swapped out the 12v2x6 cable with a 90 degree MODDIY one. Undervolted 5090 benching 4k.

My ASUS EVA THOR power supply didn't come with this cable :( But when I do upgrade to a 50 series card I will probably go with MODDIY

Hey bro, just a heads up that cable angle is pretty aggressive and under tension. With these high power 12VHPWR/12v-2x6 connectors, that can affect contact quality and increase resistance over time, especially under load spikes. I’d suggest rerouting it so the cable sits more relaxed, and ideally switching to a dedicated PSU cable designed specifically for your PSU (MODDIY makes solid ones). You’ll get cleaner power delivery and eliminate unnecessary risk. Once the fundamentals are sorted, then it makes sense to add something like a WireView Pro 2 for monitoring but first make sure the connection itself is perfect.

I just installed a new wireview and a new 12v 2x6 cable from MODDIY and average pin delta (difference between high and low pin) while gaming is .6-.7. With random spikes up to 2+ but those are so small and momentary that I’m not worry about it. Even under an 800w load it’s still less than .5 delta. I’m logging all of this through hwinfo and aquasuite with its own graphs on my stats display.

I couldn't believe how good the results were. Hot spot dropped around 20°C and the fan speed doesn't go above 50%! This thing is quiet compared to before! I've been running BG3 for the past couple hours and the temps are rock solid at 78°C, 90°C hot spot. Out of curiosity, I set the fan speed to 70% while running BG3. I was getting 58°C and 70° hot spot! I guess it helps when the heat can actually leave the die lol. Since this is PTM7950, I only expect the temps to keep getting better with more heat cycles. Anything that's bare die is getting PTM from now on! Thanks for reading! 0.25mm from MODDIY.

Finally here, from MODDIY - presenting PTM7950 pad... On ultra settings at 2K resolution, I’m getting 67 degrees celsius on the CPU and 65 degrees celsius on the GPU while getting a stable 105-115 FPS. This is online, I get about 20-30 extra fps on story mode.

No, they’re not universal and that’s exactly why you need to be careful. MODDIY makes PSU specific cables, so you have to choose the correct pinout for your exact power supply model. Modular PSU cables are not standardized on the PSU side, even if the GPU connector is the same. If you get the correct cable for your MSI A1250GL, it will work perfectly fine. But using the wrong pinout can literally kill your hardware. That’s also why I stick with MODDIY they actually build proper, high-quality cables with correct specs, not generic one fits all stuff.

Do yourself a favor and order a custom cable. The one below is gonna be the best bet. Just order it themed and colored to fit your build. Also be mindful and order the proper length. https://www.moddiy.com/products/6374/ATX-3.1-PCIe-5.1-H-12V-2X6-675W-12VHPWR-16-Pin-Power-Cable.html

I ordered the Honeywell PTM7950 thermal pad off MODDIY. It came in today, got it put in and Holy shit what a difference! When playing games like fortnite now my temps are easily 10 to 12°C cooler (I use a laptop stand to let the fans breathe).

My official Corsair cable melted last year on a 4090. I’m now using MODDIY cables that are cheaper, the quality feels better and you can choose the length to your liking.

One more thing, for piece of mind on the 12VHPWR cable, since I originally posted this, I also bought a custom 90 angle cable from MODDIY. This way I never have to worry about the bend weakening and hitting the top fan. (or just dont get the thermaltake fan)

50mm x 31mm of Honeywell’s PTM7950 (obtained from MODDIY). For total system performance I used 3DMark TimeSpy and it showed an increase of 5.1% in 3DMark score with 19.6% and 3.0% for both the CPU Score and Graphics Score, respectively. Which is a win in my opinion.

I finally got my 12V2X6 to dual 8 pin PCIE adapter cable today from MODDIY! Anyhow got to say that the connector is of very high quality and well worth it. Almost used a no name adapter I purchased on Amazon but after researching the wiring saw so many red flags that I just wouldn't risk it or use it.
